US ports collapse

1

The ports on the west coast of the United States are facing major problems with overcrowded container ships. So, in the largest ports of California, Los Angeles and Long Beach, about 40 ships are waiting for unloading every day, and about half a million containers are stuck in the terminals. Meanwhile, before the coronavirus pandemic, the queue rarely exceeded one container ship.

According to experts, what is happening is due to several reasons, and the main one is a pandemic. So, due to antiquated restrictions, large congestions are formed in Chinese ports and logistics centers, from where goods enter the United States and other countries of the world. The throughput capacity of the main Chinese ports has dropped dramatically due to the pandemic. Delays lead to an increase in the cost of delivery of goods, which is already reflected in the rise in the cost of container transportation. Thus, the delivery of one 40-foot (about 12 meters) container from China to Europe increased more than tenfold and reached $ 14.

The problem is aggravated by the growing demand for products due to the recovery of markets after large-scale vaccination of the population in different countries and the gradual recovery of the world from the pandemic. The weather factor also influenced - due to typhoon warnings, the port of Yantian and part of Shanghai have been closed for the past few weeks.

According to some analysts, overregulation of American cargo transportation and underfunding of ports on the US west coast are a constant cause of such congestion. We need a comprehensive program for the development and modernization of this area at the state level.

The closeness of the Christmas holidays was also an important reason for the transport collapse. According to The Wall Street Journal, manufacturers and retailers in the United States have increased their restocking volumes in hopes of making money during the Christmas season and covering some of the losses associated with the pandemic.

Prices will rise even faster around the world. It is necessary to compensate for the trillions of dollars that were given to the Americans.
