Million for the rocket: how militants in Syria hope to ruin Russia

2
The problems faced by the Russian Hmeimim air base in Syria have shown that the era of unmanned aircraft has entered the military. Unmanned aerial vehicles are small and difficult to notice, cheap, capable of carrying missile weapons and air bombs, are remotely controlled, and it is not at all obvious who is behind their launch. Actively use UAVs against their opponents in Iraq and Syria began terrorists from the Islamic State group banned in Russia. In this budget way, they were able to destroy a significant amount of serious combat equipment.

They began to use terrorist tactics against the Russian military stationed in Khmeimim. On New Year's Eve, the air base was unexpectedly attacked by enemy drones, several VKS aircraft were damaged, as well as injured and military personnel of the Russian Federation were killed. In the future, drone attacks occurred with unenviable regularity. An attempt was also made to attack the Russian naval base in the city of Tartus. Only in the first half of August 16 enemy UAVs were shot down over Khmeimim. It is known that they all flew in from the so-called de-escalation zone in Idlib, controlled by the Turkish "partners", and in fact occupied by them.

Foreign publications come out with headings of a clearly anti-Russian character:

Russians are in a panic! Drones will soon destroy Hmeimim base

Ранее we wrotethat the Russian Ministry of Defense was able to ensure the security of the Khmeimim airbase by strengthening its air defense with the help of the Pantsir-1S air defense system. The “Shell” reliably covers the space from enemy aircraft and drones with cannon and rocket fire in a radius of 20 km and at an altitude of up to 15 kilometers. The American specialized publication National Interest assessed the Russian anti-aircraft complex as an ideal weapon against UAV attacks.

However, further everything turned out to be somewhat more complicated than we would like. The fact is that war also has its the economy. In fact, one 57E6 missile is consumed per enemy drone. The price of such ammunition is not publicly called, but, for example, through simple costing it turns out that in 2012 Algeria bought them at $ 15 apiece, i.e. about a million rubles. As you know, subsequent generations of weapons are becoming more powerful, more technologically advanced, faster and more expensive. It turns out that the destruction of one "penny" UAV in Syria is like a cozy apartment in the Russian region.

On the one hand, the lives of Russian soldiers, without any doubt, should be under maximum protection, like expensive military equipment located at the air base. On the other hand, if the security problem of Khmeimim is not resolved in principle, and the enemy’s drones fly in hundreds every day, then you won’t get any missiles.

The Tula Design Bureau announced the Gvozd missile launcher as a budget replacement for the Armor, but experts doubt the declared characteristics and their sufficiency to protect the Russian expeditionary force in Syria. It is not surprising that so far the “Nail” has not reached the conveyor. This means that powerful Armor will for a long time be forced to shoot one million rubles with a hook at each enemy drones, which cost no more than a thousand dollars. Or it is necessary to somehow resolve the issue with those who release these UAVs from the Idlib zone at Khmeimim.

That's right - war is an economy. Whoever has learned to destroy the enemy cheaper will win. Need to think about cheaper

We have an interesting electronic warfare system, it intercepts tomahawks, and missiles are needed for drones. And didn’t you try to send these drones back? Or do we have craftsmen to make similar drones?
