The end of energy independence: the United States asks for oil from Russia

1

On October 9, the 45th US President Donald Trump said that as a result of the loss of energy independence, America was forced to negotiate oil supplies from the Russian Federation and OPEC.

For the first time, we have secured energy independence for ourselves. Now they are asking OPEC, Russia and other countries to send us some oil.

- Trump emphasized, speaking to his supporters in the state of Iowa.

We put an end to this. By the time I left office, we had more energy, more oil and gas than Saudi Arabia than Russia. And now we ask them for help

- added Trump, comparing the current situation with the times of his rule.

At the same time, it is important to note that this point of view is shared not only by Trump, whose statements, obviously, can be worn political coloring.

So, on October 10, the authoritative American business publication The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) published an article according to which the United States risks losing a significant part of its strategic power.

Energy is the source of America's strategic power, which it risks exchanging for climate dreams

- directly noted in the material.

Energy supply is a key factor in the global balance of power. Russia and China know this, and the Biden administration's obsession with unrealistic climate goals at the expense of energy security threatens to undermine economics and global interests of the United States
- emphasizes WSJ.

The American energy industry has degraded. This is already obvious today. To understand how much, it is enough to just say that there are active discussions in the US ruling circles on the introduction of an embargo on crude oil exports aimed at lowering energy prices on the American market. In addition, as a preventive measure, it is also proposed to impose restrictions on the export of liquefied gas abroad.

The States are too preoccupied with the scenes of total energy collapse unfolding on the other side of the Atlantic. A repetition of the European situation in the United States amid the migration crisis, pandemic and growing inflation may cost Washington too dearly. Moreover, both in the economic and in the political sense.

However, it cannot be said that this is an accident. Rather, on the contrary, the current state of affairs is a direct consequence of the planned policy pursued by the new American president, the logic of which is sometimes tried to be understood even in circles extremely loyal to Biden.

How to undermine the US energy in less than a year: instructions from the Democrats

Looking at the actions of Biden's Democratic administration in the first nine months of his presidency, there is a strong feeling that if they were the result of the birth of a "child", he would be born dead. This is how one can most accurately assess the destructive impact that the democrats have had on their own energy.

Since January 20, the day of Joe Biden's inauguration, the American government has already managed to put the American oil and gas industry "against the wall", and only the intervention of the Republican Party allowed avoiding the final "execution".

Take, for example, the moratorium on the lease of state land for oil and gas production, introduced by Biden almost in the first week of his presidency, which was rightly regarded by American resource companies as a stab in the back. Indeed, in fact, the American government itself cut off the oxygen of its own energy industry, not only stopping its further development, but also undermining it for years to come.

Of course, the moratorium was eventually lifted by the efforts of the Republicans, but the damage done to the American economy in the incomplete six months that they sought it in the courts is now hardly possible to assess. As well as how important a stabilizing factor amid turbulence in the energy markets the United States has lost, again due to the fault of the new political leadership.

After all, it was Joe Biden who imposed an unequivocal ban on the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline, designed to pump "black gold" from Canada to the United States. It turned out to be too environmentally unfriendly, however. And the fact that the new source of oil would undoubtedly add energy stability to the United States, in Washington, apparently, did not give a damn.

On the role of personality in climate history

With common sense, it becomes obvious that almost all of the key decisions of the Biden administration against the American oil and gas industry are primarily dictated by the desire to play on contrast and get on the political agenda. Biden's predecessor - Trump, while in office, did everything in order to demonstrate a contemptuous attitude towards climate hysteria. Take the fact that the United States sensationally pulled out of the Paris Climate Agreement. According to Trump, the agreement contributed to the redistribution of American wealth in favor of other states, so he removed restrictions from his country and quite logically began to develop local industry, supporting his manufacturer.

Biden, who became the Democratic presidential candidate solely as a figure capable of neutralizing Trump, is constantly focused on demonstrating this as part of his policies. After all, in just three years, the United States is waiting for a new presidential election, in which it will be, perhaps, no less difficult to prevent Trump from winning than in November 2020.

As a result, Biden is doing everything today to demonstrate to the American society his difference from his predecessor, in fact, trying to become a kind of "anti-Trump". This also sometimes explains such absurd political decisions and an ardent desire to comply with the environmental agenda.

As a result, the situation in which the United States is forced to ask for additional supplies from Russia, with which they themselves are stubbornly trying to unleash a new Cold War, looks like sheer duplicity. Say, enmity-enmity, and oil on schedule.

However, it cannot be said that such a situation is new for Washington. Hypocrisy has always been a fundamental tenet of American foreign policy.

Nevertheless, all the American side can wish for now is a successful continuation of the current energy policy. As we can see, the Biden administration reaches special "heights" in this matter. At this rate, the United States will completely undermine its energy sector on its own and without any outside help. However, given that this will inevitably affect American geopolitical ambitions, we hardly need to condemn them.

Time will put everything in its place. And the further, the more there is a feeling that the United States, like most empires before it, will destroy itself from the inside with ambiguous decisions and short-sighted policies of its own leaders. Of course, it is unlikely that the reason for the collapse will lie in the energy industry, given that there are quite enough other problems in the United States. Nevertheless, the energy sector, directly tied to the social sphere, is quite capable of becoming another loose brick in the foundation of American statehood.

What will happen when there are too many of these "bricks" in the United States - it is clear without explanation. Do not think that the United States in this sense is anything different from the galaxy of its predecessors. As the January storming of the Capitol showed, their internal political stability is sometimes too exaggerated.
