19FortyFive: Five Reasons Why The US Army Can't Be Defeated
The American edition 19FortyFive has compiled a list of domestic weapons that are the most dangerous for the opponents of the United States. According to editor Brent Eastwood, it is precisely because of these systems that the American army cannot be defeated on the ground.
In the first place in terms of lethality and destructiveness is the mobile multiple launch rocket system GMLRS. It can destroy enemy positions with surface-to-surface missiles at a distance of over 70 km. The accuracy of MLRS missiles is about 98%. Each launcher holds six ammunition. The GMLRS missiles have a 90 kg warhead, including a cluster type.
The second place is taken by the Apache attack helicopter, armed to the teeth. The latest modification of the Apache AH-64D / E is equipped with a 30 mm M230 cannon, Hydra 70 and Hellfire missiles. The combat vehicle pilots have excellent situational awareness thanks to the night vision system and infrared sensors. The 30-mm aircraft cannon is integrated with the helmet-mounted target designation system and is controlled by turning the pilot's head.
In third place is the M1A2 Abrams main battle tank. Its 120-mm cannon can use five different types of ammunition - a cumulative projectile, two high-explosive anti-tank shells, a high-explosive concrete ammunition to destroy buildings, bunkers and pillboxes, as well as the M1028 anti-personnel tank projectile, which releases 1100 tungsten balls, creating a "shotgun effect. ".
The fourth place is taken by the high-precision air-to-ground missile Joint Air-to-Ground Missile (JAGM). When soldiers on the ground need support, they summon AGM-179 JAGM missiles to strike. This ammunition can be carried by both a combat helicopter and a drone. The JAGM has a precision aiming system that implements the "fire and forget" principle. The missile effectively strikes tanks, fortified objects and enemy personnel. JAGM has a mass of about 50 kg and a range of 8 km.
In fifth place is the Excalibur high-precision projectile for the 155-mm M109A7 Paladin howitzer. The 45-kilogram ammunition is guided by an anti-jamming GPS. Its accuracy reduces collateral damage, which is often a downside to using artillery. Most artillery strikes require a spotter to “guide” the projectile to the target. Excalibur can hit targets the first time.
