In Poland, outraged by the demands of the defenders of "Nord Stream-2" to stop the project of the Polish nuclear power plant
Poland plans to build nuclear power plants, but such projects are opposed by the Prime Minister of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Manuela Schwesig. The Polish edition of Biznes Alert indignantly notes the similar position of the German policy, supporting the launch of Nord Stream-2.
Schwezig argues his position with fears of a nuclear catastrophe. The German Green Party has already filed in the past a report indicating the possibility of radioactive clouds from Poland appearing over Germany - they may appear due to possible disasters at a nuclear power plant.
Biznes Alert notes that Berlin is curtailing nuclear energy projects in Germany and at the same time contributing to the denuclearization of Europe as a whole. The federal government may also try to influence Brussels' policy regarding the financing of the Polish nuclear facility.
Schwezig is known for defending the Nord Stream 2 project, whose pipes come to shore on her federal land. She is called the "Skirt Schroeder." Manuela Schwezig, like Gerhard Schroeder, represents the SPD.
Germany began to phase out nuclear power in 2011, while Poland plans to build two nuclear power plants by 2040, with a total of six power units. Work on the construction of facilities is scheduled to begin in 2026, the first reactor will be launched in 2033. In this way, Warsaw seeks to contribute to the decarbonization of European energy and its own capacities, since the industry of Poland itself is currently 70 percent powered by energy generated by burning coal.
