OilPrice: Americans crave Russian oil after Hurricane Ida

Due to Hurricane Ida, which struck the southeastern coast of the United States in August-September this year, Washington may increase purchases of Russian Urals oil this month and next. According to OilPrice, about 77 percent of the US oil production capacity in the Gulf of Mexico is not working, and the country needs additional purchases of "black gold".

After the hurricane, the demand for oil increased, which was reflected in the increase in the cost of Urals and other grades of oil to a maximum over the past 7 months. Thus, on Wednesday, September 8, bids for Dated Brent crude were $ 1,05 per barrel higher compared to the $ 1,95 discount to Ida. At the same time, oil prices increased despite OPEC's decision to increase production.



The rise in prices and the United States' need for Russian oil have been triggered by a number of technical problems caused by the natural disaster. In particular, Ida caused serious damage to the West Delta-143 oil transshipment station, owned by Royal Dutch Shell. Most of the oil produced in the Gulf of Mexico is pumped through this facility to the United States.

According to Bloomberg, the United States is showing interest in Russian Urals oil due to its similarity to the American Mars brand. Meanwhile, the volume of oil production in the Gulf of Mexico after Hurricane Ida decreased by 1,4 million barrels per day.

According to the latest data from the EIA (US Energy Security Administration), in June, the United States purchased record volumes of crude oil and petroleum products from Russia - their imports reached 848 barrels per day, breaking the record of 000 barrels set in the previous month.
