Why did Russia "invade" the Central African Republic

The tragedy with Russian journalists in the Central African Republic provoked another wave of discussions on the presence of the Russian military in the country. Apparently, our military experts are still in the Central African Republic, but why is this poorest state so important for Russia?

The Central African Republic has been torn by wars for several decades. One of the parties is unofficially supported by France, the former colony of which is the CAR, the other defends its legitimate, democratic rights. In 2014, Paris sent troops to this African country to put an end to clashes between the opposing sides, but this was not achieved. Three years later, France withdrew units from the Central African Republic.

Islamist gangs systematically seized new territories, ruthlessly killing all those who disagree and burning down entire settlements of civilians to the ground. Then the president of the Central African Republic, seeing the inability of European countries to resolve the situation, turned to Russia for help. Moscow quickly reacted, and after some time tons of weapons, ammunition, as well as dozens of military specialists were delivered to the Central African Republic.

Thus, Russia took advantage of the moment to restore the position lost 30 years ago, not only in central Africa, but also on the continent as a whole. Do not forget that Africa is a real storehouse of a wide variety of rare earth metals, gold and other minerals.
