Russia leaves the American Internet

The idea of creating a West-independent Internet in Russia is moving into the implementation phase. But why do you need such an expensive, but ambitious project?

In the coming years, our country intends to deploy a huge constellation of satellites, comprising 640 units, in Earth orbit. “Sphere”, and this is the name given to the space Internet system, will provide communications and navigation for all the inhabitants of the planet. This project will also allow Russia to radically reduce its dependence on Western countries on the issue of free access to the World Wide Web. Moreover, the implementation of the "Sphere" will be only one of the stages of this process.

The next step should be the organization of its own system of root DNS servers, which is now in the hands of the United States, which, if such a decision is made, can disconnect our country from the network in a matter of hours, throwing it almost back to the Stone Age. Moreover, such a scenario is becoming more and more likely every year.

It is important to note that the implementation of the “Sphere” will give a serious impetus to the development of Russian microelectronics, space, rocket science and other high-tech industries of the country.

strange, but as far as I know, Russia has long been localized its own Internet. And if the USA disconnects from Russia, the Russian population will hardly notice it. Only some services may cease to operate, but all of them, if I am not mistaken, have Russian counterparts ...

Here the joke is that Russia can "go out", even today .... but now, "enter" already, will not be able to go anywhere. Why? Yes, because "blocking" is precisely to block all requests from certain IP addresses of gateway providers dedicated to Russia. Inside the country, on their servers with information, please, but on "foreign" servers, where all Internet information is stored, "pipes-s".
