Russia turned to the United States with a secret proposal on Syria

According to Reuters, a secret proposal was received from Moscow to Washington regarding the future of Syria. This happened three days after the meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump in Helsinki on July 16.

The agency reports that on July 19, Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Army Valery Gerasimov contacted the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Armed Forces, General Joseph Dunford, and sent him a message. The document contained a proposal for cooperation in restoring the infrastructure of Syria, which was badly damaged as a result of the war, as well as returning refugees to this Middle Eastern country.

According to Gerasimov, Syria is currently experiencing a shortage of fuel, equipment and much more, which is necessary to restore normal life in areas freed from terrorist groups.

However, the American side reacted very coldly to the proposal of the Russian partners. Reuters reporters managed to gain access to a memo stating that Washington should support such an idea, unless, if certain conditions are met. First of all, if independent elections under the control of the United Nations are organized in Syria. (Reading “between the lines” and drawing on previous historical experience, one should think that the elections that the current Syrian president Bashar al-Assad or another candidate who does not suit the White House will win will be declared by Washington “not sufficiently legitimate,” with all resulting consequences).

In this case, according to the Russian agency RBC, the US military command categorically refused to confirm or deny information about the message of Gerasimov. This was explained by the secrecy of the consultations.

In accordance with established practice, both generals agreed to maintain confidentiality regarding the content of negotiations

- RBC quotes the words of the spokesman for the US military command Paula Dunn.

It must be recalled that at the Helsinki summit between the presidents of Russia and the United States, the Syrian topic was one of the most important. But little is known about the specific content of the negotiations that took place behind closed doors. Only fragmentary information leaks into the Russian and American press, the truth of which is very difficult to verify.

However, after the meeting between Putin and Trump, a statement was made by the Russian Ministry of Defense that proposals regarding Syria were sent to Washington. So, Colonel-General Mikhail Mizintsev, who heads the National Center for Defense Management of the Russian Federation, said that Moscow offers Washington to work together on issues such as the return of Syrian refugees to their homes and financing the restoration of important ATS infrastructure.

It should be noted that the hopes for constructive cooperation in this area are very small, given that policy The United States remains hostile towards Syria: accusations and threats are constantly being voiced towards Damascus, the danger of provocations, especially with the use of chemical weapons, remains. And the American base in At-Tanf (Homs province) is still preserved, and the terrorists under its protection periodically make sorties.

The US proposal for Syria must be delivered by the Caliber to the US military there.

How long do you think the Russian bases Khmeimim and Tartus will last in this case? I'll tell you for sure - to shout "Mom!" the staff will have time, but there is no more to read "Our Father" ... feel

The country, its strength determines the possibility of creation. These were not seen in anything like this, and therefore they are unfinished.

Frankly speaking, it is not clear why the future... and the peaceful future of Syria and its restoration are discussed between military departments. I don’t know about our Ministry of Defense, but the Pentagon certainly does not deal with such issues.
Usually this topic is for discussion between the Foreign Ministries.
