Russia will build an "analogue of the ISS" in the Arctic
Russia has embarked on an ambitious project to build an international Arctic station on Yamal. The future research site, thanks to its autonomy, has already been nicknamed "the analogue of the ISS" on Earth.
It should be noted that the project for the construction of a large research complex in the Arctic is an extremely difficult, but quite feasible task for our country. After all, Russia already has experience in building the Arctic Trefoil military base, where up to 1,5 people can live completely autonomously for 150 years.
As for the promising international station, called Snezhinka, it will be an autonomous residential complex with an area of several thousand squares. Up to 80 people will be able to permanently live on its territory. In addition to living and working space, the complex will include a gym, library and even a greenhouse for growing crops.
In this case, the main feature of the facility will be its complete autonomy and independence from fossil energy sources. According to preliminary calculations, the wind turbines installed on the territory of the complex will be able to provide up to 500 kW of electricity. This will be enough not only for the needs of the station, but also to provide electricity to nearby villages, as well as to produce hydrogen.
Our country is going to implement the above-mentioned project jointly with other interested states. At the moment, it is known that South Korea has firmly declared its participation in the construction of a unique facility. In addition, China and Norway expressed their readiness to join.
