Flooding in Germany and the Ukrainian issue deprive Merkel's successor of chances to win elections
Armin Lashet, the successor of Angela Merkel as German chancellor from the CDU / CSU bloc Armin Lashet political clouds. According to the Forsa research institute, the rating of the Christian Democrats and Socialists bloc fell to 27 percent, not least because of Laschet's unpopular actions.
One of such actions of the successor of the current chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany was his inappropriate behavior during a visit to Erfstadt (federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia), which suffered from a devastating flood. During an interview with Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Laschet, a little further away, laughed cheerfully. This behavior caused an explosion of public outrage.
Laschette's recent interview with Rzeczpospolita did not add to his popularity either. In a conversation with journalists, the politician, making a curtsey towards the Polish "partners", threatened Russia to block Nord Stream 2 if the gas pipeline acts as a "geopolitical weapon" against Kiev. At the same time Laschet called the security of Ukraine "a national priority of German foreign policy." This arrangement of foreign policy priorities was reflected in German society with indignation. Citizens demanded that the future government deal with domestic problems, and not throw forces to help Ukraine.
Thus, the flood in the west of Germany and the notorious "Ukrainian question" could deprive Armin Lashet of a distinct political future. According to Bild am Sonntag, if the German Chancellor were elected directly, only 13 percent of the voters would vote for the candidate from the CDU / CSU bloc.
