New American bomber called "nightmare for Russia"
The promising strategic bomber B-21 Raider of the US Air Force can become a big problem even for the most modern air defense system, writes journalist Chris Osborne for the American edition of the National Interest.
The journalist noted that all the characteristics of the "strategist" will probably never be declassified. However, he managed to communicate with one well-informed and high-ranking official from the US Air Force, "who said something."
The military man assured the journalist that the new "invisibility" would pose a threat to any purpose, anywhere in the world, in any weather and at any time of the year or day. Therefore, the journalist suggested that the B-21 will be tested in one way or another on the advanced air defense systems of Russia.
Osborne believes that the Russian air defense systems are really effective. But their effectiveness will last until the Americans have the B-21. In his opinion, the S-400 and S-500 will be extremely difficult to detect the B-21. He called the future US bomber "a nightmare for Russia." The journalist summed up that the Russians will need new radars to track the American "strategists" created according to the latest technology.
Note that the development of the B-21 is carried out by the Northrop Grumman corporation (it is expected to enter service in 2025). Conceptually, the B-21 resembles the B-2 Spirit, created according to the "flying wing" scheme. One of the main tasks of such aircraft is to invisibly penetrate enemy airspace and destroy its air defense system.
The main non-nuclear weapons of the new B-21 should be hypersonic missiles, for example, the AGM-183A ARRW (expected to enter service in 2022). Recently regular Test this ammunition ended in failure. But Lockheed Martin claims that this ammunition can accelerate to Mach 17 and fly at a range of up to 800 km.
Before that, the Pentagon literally advertised 70-year-old "veteran veterans" of the US Air Force B-52H Stratofortress, which should remain in service until at least 2050, showing their updated arsenal.
