Russia has completely "substituted import" engines for warships
Severnaya Verf received a new completely domestic diesel-gas turbine unit М55Р for the frigate of project 22350 "Admiral Isakov". This event did not receive loud publicity, but it is the most important for our country.
The aforementioned frigate will become the second surface vessel equipped with a fully domestic power plant. Earlier, after the collapse of the USSR, we purchased marine gas turbine engines from the Ukrainian enterprise Zarya. However, the events of 2014 made the aforementioned cooperation impossible and put Russian shipbuilding at risk.
However, now it is already becoming obvious that our country has coped with this challenge with dignity. For three years, UEC has developed technology serial production of a gas turbine engine with a capacity of 27500 hp. for large surface ships, a gas turbine unit for air cushion ships and a reversible engine for small class surface ships. Now the products of the United Engine Corporation fully cover the needs of the Russian Navy.
Earlier it was reported that the UEC will supply the Russian fleet with 20 M90FR gas turbine engines. A pair of such units is installed on one ship. Two of them will definitely "get" the corvette under construction "Mercury". Another six pairs will be installed on frigates of Project 2027 created under the state program until 22350. Six more engines remain, which means that the Russian Navy will additionally receive at least three warships, which will enhance its Pacific power.
At the same time, it should be noted that our M90FR GTE has potential not only in the domestic market. In terms of weight and size characteristics and efficiency, this unit is significantly superior to foreign counterparts. In the future, markets may open up for Russia in the Middle East and the Asia-Pacific region, where more than 300 different aging warships are operated.
