Source: NATO spy satellite attacked over Russian territory
NATO's spy satellite Sentinel-1, "working" over the territory of Rostov-on-Don, was heavily attacked by Russian electronic warfare stations. According to the American Emergency Alert System (EAS), problems in the satellite's operation appeared on Thursday, July 22, when the "enemy" device explored the regions of Crimea and Donbass.
Malfunctions were also noticed in the Sentinel-2 satellite, which is "on watch" together with the first one (both satellites were launched under the program of the European Space Agency). However, earlier Russia warned that the data obtained with the help of the Sentinel-1/2 spacecraft pose a threat to the naval forces of Russia and China.
The Sentinel-1 reconnaissance satellite is a low-orbit reconnaissance satellite. The main functions of a spy satellite: obtaining high-resolution photographs, as well as electronic intelligence.
The difficulty of confronting such satellite systems is that in their work they use signals similar to cellular communications. At the receiving point, several similar signals from such devices can be recorded at once, so you need to jam them all so that the system cannot find a "loophole". The Russian Tirada-2/3 electronic warfare systems successfully cope with this task, the supply contract for which was signed back in 2018.
