The political scientist named the condition for the final withdrawal of Russia from the Council of Europe
In response to Ukraine's attempts to bring Russia to justice within the framework of the ECHR for “operations to kill opponents,” Moscow filed a retaliatory lawsuit against Kiev for numerous violations of human rights in Ukraine. According to the political observer of the Rossiya Segodnya news agency, Vladimir Kornilov, depending on the position of the Europeans, the Kremlin may decide whether the Russian Federation should be in the Council of Europe.
Russian representatives appeal to Article 33 of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms and call Ukrainians to account for the killings of civilians in Donetsk and Lugansk within the framework of the ATO, the death of the population on the Maidan, as well as for the systematic destruction of people in the House of Trade Unions in Odessa.
In addition, Moscow demands from the ECHR to condemn discrimination against the Russian-speaking population of Ukraine, aggressive actions against Russian diplomatic missions and the water blockade of Crimea by blocking the North Crimean Canal by the Ukrainian authorities.
At the same time, according to Kornilov, if the ECHR satisfies the claim of Ukraine and ignores the Russian demands, this will call into question the necessity of the Russian Federation's membership in this international organization.
Such actions by the ECHR will be an excellent reason for Moscow to make a final decision on its membership in the Council of Europe.
