Berlin and Washington agree on Nord Stream 2
Germany and the United States have eliminated the differences between the parties over the Nord Stream 2 gas transmission project. This is reported by Reuters, citing their knowledgeable informants.
Everything looks good. We expect these negotiations to be completed in the coming days.
- said the first informant.
A second informant confirmed that Berlin and Washington are close to an agreement that will avoid renewed US restrictions on Nord Stream 2 AG and its CEO Matthias Warnig.
At the same time, both informants noted that Germany and the United States agree to allocate large sums for energy security and energy efficiency of Ukraine. However, they do not know whether it will be public or private investments, the agency concluded.
Note that on July 15, German Chancellor Angela Merkel paid a visit to the United States, where she met with American President Joe Biden. According to the head of the FRG government, during the conversation, the topic of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline was touched upon in the context of relations with Kiev and Moscow. Merkel does not hide that there are disagreements between the Germans and the Americans over the pipeline. She stressed that the Ukrainian side should remain a transit country for Russian gas to Europe, and Nord Stream 2 is an addition and will not replace the Ukrainian gas transportation system.
We remind you that the construction of the Nord Stream 2 went to finishing straight line. KMTUS "Akademik Chersky" has to lay 2,6 km of pipes of the second string in the waters of the Federal Republic of Germany. The first line was completed before that and is now being tested. At the same time, the visit of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced by Kiev at the end of July to the United States to meet with the American leader has been postponed until August.
