The Russian concern "Almaz-Antey" for the first time showed the air defense system "Resource" developed by it. This versatile ship complex is capable not only of shooting down air objects, but also of sinking ships.

In this case, a feature of the brainchild of Russian engineers lies in the "ammunition". The "Resource" uses missiles of two types. The first is long-range, capable of reaching targets at a distance of 40 km and an altitude of 20 km, and its minimum interception line is only 1,4 km.



This ammunition is designed to destroy any air targets, including ballistic warheads that fall at speeds up to Mach 3. But that's not all. An anti-aircraft missile, maneuvering in an intercept mode with an overload of up to 40G, leaves no room to dodge it, which provides almost 100% target destruction with one shot.

The second type of ammunition of the "Resource" complex is designed to intercept air targets at a range of 15 km and an altitude of up to 8 km with a minimum range of 800 meters.

As a result, equipped with short- and medium-range anti-aircraft missiles, the Resurs air defense system is capable of providing reliable air defense not only to the ship on which it is installed, but also to other ships of the squadron. Add to this the possibility of effective destruction of ships from a frigate and below, and we get a universal weapon system for pennants of light classes.

At the moment it is known that the newest "Resource" complex has already passed state tests and is in trial operation on several corvettes and frigates of Project 22350.

      Logically, on the basis of the Resource air defense system, it is necessary to create an interspecific air defense / missile defense system of short and medium range for the Navy, Aerospace Forces and air defense of the ground forces, which will replace / combine the capabilities of two air defense systems: the "impenetrable" Tor-2M and the long-range Pantsir-SM.

      State tests of the modernized Pantsir-SM anti-aircraft complex with improved combat characteristics will be completed in 2021.
      The updated complex will be equipped with a missile capable of double the speed compared to the standard 57E6E ammunition of the Pantsir-S1 complex: 3000 meters per second versus 1300. Another important improvement will be a multifunctional aiming radar with a phased array antenna - with it the targeting range of the Pantsir will increase to 40 kilometers, and the target detection radius - up to 75 km. These figures are also twice the capabilities of its predecessor.

SAM will not sink, but it is also capable of doing miracles - from riddling the team with shrapnel (there is no armor on modern ships ...) to breaking cables and antennas, knocking out electronic systems and making the ship completely unusable.
