The Pentagon has signed in the inability to resist the hypersonic weapons of Russia
Washington is experiencing great difficulties trying to catch up with Moscow and Beijing in the development of hypersonic weapons, writes the American magazine National Interest.
Experts still cannot determine the degree of importance of hypersonic weapons for the country's military potential. A Congressional Research Service report indicates that in recent years, the United States has increased funding for programs aimed at developing such weapons. At the same time, the Russians and the Chinese have significantly increased their potential. The document specifies that the Russian Federation and the PRC are betting on hypersonic systems with a focus on nuclear weapons, and the United States needs such weapons mainly for tactical use. This is more difficult and requires more precision.
The United States does not have systems that could expose them (China and the Russian Federation - ed.) Danger to the proper degree and we do not have protection against their systems (hypersonic - ed.)
- announced the difficulties of the Pentagon's deputy head for research and development Michael Griffin during his speech in Congress.
Currently, the US Department of Defense is faced with problems that are caused by the uncertainty of the tasks associated with the creation of its own hypersonic weapons. The department still does not fully understand what exactly it is necessary to spend money on. At the same time, the Pentagon is frightened by the high rate of development of such systems in Russia and China. Therefore, many experts are calling for the inclusion of hypersonic weapons in existing arms control treaties or for the conclusion of new agreements to minimize or completely ban their testing, the media concluded.
Note that the Americans actually signed for their inability to resist the hypersonic weapons of the Russian Federation and the PRC at this stage. Now they can try to hide behind an international deal in order to gain time, and when necessary - abandon the agreements, as they did with the INF Treaty.
