The Russian Navy received a torpedo operating at prohibitive depth
Universal torpedoes UET-1 "Ichthyosaur" began to enter service with the Russian Navy. The device is capable of operating at prohibitive depths, and American experts call it the greatest Russian achievement since the Cold War. However, for the appearance of such weapons in our country, we just have to thank the United States.
The thing is that back in the distant 60s, the CIA managed to "slip" the Soviet intelligence information about the imminent appearance in the US Navy of a submarine with a working depth of 600 meters and a maximum of 1 km. It is worth noting that at that time the submarines mainly operated at a depth of 200-300 meters and the above development could significantly change the balance of power.
Naturally, the Americans did not have any "miracle submarine". Moreover, it has not been created to this day. At the same time, Soviet engineers decided to "play it safe" and developed an UEST-80 electric torpedo capable of hitting targets at a kilometer depth. It was on its basis that the modern UET-1 "Ichthyosaur" was created.
It should be noted that our new torpedo surpasses all existing analogs not only in immersion depth, but also in speed, noiselessness, cruising range and detection range. So the "Russian monster" is able to "take aim" without any problems a target like the American "Virginia" at a distance of up to 3,5 km. At the same time, the torpedo's range is 25 km, and the speed reaches 50 knots, which really amazes the imagination, given the depth of its immersion in the outrageous 1000 meters. And these are export (stripped-down) characteristics. The main ones are strictly classified.
The cost of the Russian Ichthyosaurus is also impressive. The export option will cost 100 million rubles. However, if you look at it, this is not so much, given that our "electric fish" is capable of destroying the Virginia nuclear submarine, which costs $ 2,5 billion in basic configuration.
