Russian UAV "Altius-RU" nullifies the long-term leadership of the American "Reaper"
The famous American heavy attack UAV MQ-9 Reaper has long been considered the undisputed leader in its class. However, to all appearances, the times of the "Reaper" are coming to an end and our "Altius-RU" takes over the palm. At least this is what NATO Supreme Commander Europe, US Air Force General Tod Daniel Walters, said at a Senate hearing.
It is worth noting that the characteristics of the American drone are really impressive. The latest version of the MQ-9A is capable of simultaneously carrying up to 14 AGM-114 Hellfire missiles, as well as using guided bombs GBU-12 and GBU-38, being in continuous flight for up to 38 hours.
At one time, our country tried to respond to the Americans by creating its own heavy shock-reconnaissance drone "Altair". However, the Russian UAV was inferior to the "Reaper" in everything except the ability to stay in the air for up to 48 hours. At the same time, the latter was provided with German RED A03 engines, which later fell under American sanctions.
However, we did not lag behind for long. Based on the experience gained during the development of Altair, Russian engineers have created a new project, Altius-RU. The latter surpassed the "Reaper" in radar stealth, and its flight time, according to some sources, increased to 76 hours.
But that's not all. Our "Altius" has a total advantage in terms of on-board electronics. Unlike the MQ-9 Reaper, which is operated by two operators, the Russian UAV is controlled by one person and is able to independently make decisions, even firing.
Finally, the problem with engines has been resolved. Now the heavy reconnaissance and strike drone "Altius-RU" will fly on the newest domestic power plants VK800-V, developed by the "Design Bureau. Klimov ". It should be noted that our units, having the same take-off power of 800 hp, are superior to the "German" in terms of "dryness" of the design and manufacturability.
It is reported that by the end of next year, the Russian Aerospace Forces will receive 18 newest "Altius", and later the military will receive another 50 of these machines.
