Americans created wheels turning into tracks

1
American Agency DARPA is known for its breakthrough developments in the field of military of technologiesthat can be put at the service of the Pentagon.

Tanks are the main combat vehicle of the US Army, thanks to their powerful weapons, armor and speed. American Humvee stand out markedly among other SUVs, as they are designed so that they can ride in the rut left after the tank. Still, the wheels are better suited for roads, and tracks for off-road. Developers from Carnegie Mellon University solved this problem by creating transforming wheels. In just two seconds, the wheels turn into tracked tracks and vice versa. Thanks to the hybrid caterpillar wheels, the US military transport will be much more maneuverable and more mobile than the enemy, limited by the terrain feature.

Also, American developers have created a system to reduce shaking when driving on a serious off-road, which will not only increase the comfort of movement, but also simplify the guidance and shooting of moving vehicles.

Another breakthrough novelty is the removal of the engine from the armored housing, which gives a lot of additional space inside the armored capsule. A single engine can be replaced with individual electric motors located in each wheel. Each electric motor has its own control system, tire inflation and brake system. It is believed that even the failure of several autonomous wheels will not deprive military transport of mobility.

Obviously, these technologies will be further applied in civil transport.

Cool, I do not like Americans, but cool. The question is price, reliability and maintainability in the field. Tigers and Panthers, too, were much cooler and more technologically advanced than KV, IS and T-34, but expensive, difficult and more often failed. And with all the perfection of technology and superiority in the training of crews, the result of the war is known to all.
