Meet: the first flexible electronics

0
Chinese scientists have learned how to create electronic devices that can significantly stretch and bend without loss of performance. It was possible to achieve such properties due to the use of liquid gallium, enclosed in a silicone matrix, in the production.

A typical problem for bending and resilient devices is their toxicity, which precludes their use by humans without special protective equipment. In addition, such devices are very expensive, and their lifespan is very short.

The Chinese development is devoid of these shortcomings: the device can stretch 6 times or more and does not lose working capacity after several thousand deformations. Tests have shown that after 10 thousand cycles of deformation, the chain resistance has changed by only 3%. The conductivity of liquid metal sections reaches 2316 siemens per centimeter, and the minimum possible thickness of the device is 15 micrometers.

The scope of this Technology very wide - from the creation of gloves-keyboards (a prototype of such a device was demonstrated by the developers of the technology) to numerous devices for the needs of medicine.
