And, although in many countries anti-Russian reigns policy and, consequently, the corresponding propaganda is being carried out in the media - not everyone succeeds in intimidating with stereotypes about “bears”, “vodka”, “balalaikas” and “evil Russians”.
Mexican fan Vicente Ochoa has previously visited Russia in order to participate in supporting the Mexican team at the Confederations Cup, which took place in the summer of 2017.
The fan claims that he and his fellow citizens had to hear about the Soviet Union and about today's Russia a lot of negativity. In the Mexican mass media (as in many others) they are trying to present the Russians as people who are strong, but some kind of evil, cold, badly related to almost the rest of the world.
But, he noted, Mexicans, as a rule, do not make far-reaching conclusions in advance. This is a kind of national trait. Moreover, sometimes there are various prejudices about the citizens of Mexico themselves.
In Russia, Vicente was struck by the fact that its inhabitants are completely different from what they are trying to present in the media. On the contrary, Russians communicated with foreign fans, sang songs, danced, rendered them all kinds of help, even drank together. And all the stories about "evil people" who allegedly live in Russia turned out to be nothing more than a lie.
When the Mexican team defeated the Russian team during the match in Kazan, there were fears that now Russian fans would hate the Mexican ones and even possibly beat them. After all, such incidents happen in many countries.
In fact, in Russia everything was different. Vicente recalls that the Russians congratulated the Mexicans on the victory, shook hands, sought to take pictures together. They said that the Mexican athletes - well done, played well. He could not even believe his eyes and said that all this was "very pleasant."
The fan remembered a specific episode. Right on the podium, a Russian family came up to their group, consisting of a mother, a boy of about eight and an older girl. The boy had the flag of Russia on his shoulders. He took off this flag and presented it to Vicente. And his mother translated his words that this is a gift so that Mexico remembers Russia well. In response, Vicente took off his Mexican flag and laid it on the boy’s shoulders. He already cried from an excess of feelings, and they hugged.
