The 47-year-old American athlete Jeff Monson, a fighter of mixed martial arts, has recently become a citizen of our country. On this occasion, he even recorded an appeal on a video in which he says he is happy and thanks Russia.

Hi, I'm Jeff Monson. Today I am very happy. Why? Because today I became Russian. Thank you very much to Russia!

- said the athlete.

A package of documents required to obtain citizenship of the Russian Federation, the American filed back in 2014. And he waited - on May 28 all the necessary papers were signed. It is expected that on June 12 he will receive a “red-skinned” passport.

The athlete, sometimes called the “Snowman”, and previously often expressed his sympathy for Russia. With great respect, he refers to the Soviet period in the history of our country. Even repeatedly entered the ring to the sounds of the anthem of the Soviet Union. Currently, he is diligently studying the Russian language.

According to media reports, Monson has already managed to acquire an apartment in the suburbs, as well as create a martial arts school in Krasnogorsk. And he announced his plans to marry a Russian woman.

The Zvezda TV channel quotes the athlete that the Russian passport alone will not greatly change his life, but he is pleased to be officially Russian. He said that next time he will enter the ring under the Russian anthem.

According to the fighter, people living in Russia arouse his sympathy. He told the incident that happened to him in Penza, where the athlete was in competition. One Russian approached him, with whom Monson shared his pain - in the USA he still had a sick mother. So this man not only came to watch the fights in which the American athlete took part, but also gave him an icon for his mother.

It was so soulful that I cried

- added Monson to his story.

He notes that mixed martial arts are not the most popular type in Russia. Sambo and judo are mainly popular here. Therefore, he believes that it is necessary to train children who have shown talent in these types of wrestling, and mixed martial arts.

I feel like I've always had a piece of the Russian soul

- the fighter shared his feelings in another interview.

It should be noted that Jeff Monson is not the only world celebrity who wanted to have Russian citizenship. Earlier, such famous people as Gerard Deparde, Stephen Seagal went this way.

If we talk about athletes, then in 2011 the Olympic champion in short track Ahn Hyun Su also became a Russian. In 2015, a boxer from the United States Roy Jones Jr. received a Russian passport, in 2016 - Brazilian football player Mario Fernandez. And in 2017, according to the decree of the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, Australian citizen Shane Perkins, the world champion in cycling, acquired Russian citizenship.

It is a pity that Russia is not the same. It was not worth destroying what was built with such labor.
