1000 trains per month: “New Silk Road” is gaining momentum through Russia
Container shipping China - Europe (in both directions) for the first time in a month crossed the mark of 1000 trains. China National Railway Group informed about this achievement.
It is noted that in May 2020, 1033 railway freight trains were sent from China to Europe and received in the opposite direction. If you count in annual terms, the growth was 43%. In May 2020, 93 thousand TEU cargo was transported.
In the direction of China - Europe, 556 trains were sent, which transported 50 thousand TEU of cargo, which is 52% more than in May 2019. The container load factor was 99,9%. In the direction of Europe-China, 477 trains were sent, which transported 43 thousand TEU of cargo, which is 44% more than in May 2019. The container load factor was 96,4%.
For clarity, the Twentyfoot Equivalent Unit is a unit of measure equal to the volume of one 20-foot container (the volume of one 40-foot container is 2TEU). The above reporting clearly demonstrates that the New Silk Road through Russia is gaining momentum, despite obstacles.
The Chinese comrades emphasized that the smooth and trouble-free operation helped to ensure the stability of the supply chains of various goods, contributed to the development of trade and helped states in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. The train schedule was optimized, which allowed to increase their number while reducing shipping by sea and air during the crisis.
In May 2020, the main goods sent to Europe from China were anti-epidemic drugs, medical equipment and personal protective equipment.
