USSR or Third Reich: who actually helped the United States in World War II
American-made M3s tanks advance to the front line of defense of the Soviet 6th Guards Army. July 1943
After publication a week ago Articles about attempts by American intelligence to conduct separate negotiations with the Nazis and Britain’s plans to attack the Soviet Union in 1945, some of the readers, outraged by "insulting the invaluable American assistance" allegedly provided to our country during the Great Patriotic War, demanded an exact comparison "Lend-Lease" and military supplies from Nazi Germany from the USA. Yes, and certainly with "specific numbers and examples."
Obviously, it was assumed that the author, caught red-handed on “vile insinuations”, would be afraid and ashamed, after which, having sprinkled the head with ashes, he immediately repented and stood in front in front of a star-striped flag. Do not wait ... Do you want comparisons, facts and figures? Sorry - let's discuss this topic in the most detailed way possible.
"Good war"
That is what they called World War II in the United States, and not without reason. Having decided that the American contribution to the global massacre should be “weapons, not armies,” Washington adhered to this line as much as possible. But weapons and military goods can be supplied to both parties to the conflict! The benefit of "market economy”And the system of transnational corporations, by the 30s of the last century, already created and perfectly debugged, made it possible to do this in the most wonderful way. I have already talked about many details of American military "assistance" to our country in the article "Sly" Lend-Lease ", which is quite accessible on our resource. Those interested can familiarize themselves. I, in order not to repeat myself, will dwell solely on what was demanded of me - on specific figures.
So, the legislative decision on the Lend-Lease program was adopted by the US Congress on March 11, 1941, and there was no word in it about “help to the allies” - exclusively about “selling or leasing materials and goods necessary for waging a war”. At the same time, any supplies should meet, first of all, the "US defense interests." All received “benefited” in this way states were obliged either to return the Americans at the first request, or to pay at the rates established by them. And besides - "to carry out US assistance by all means, resources and information available to him." By the way, here is another important point - any country that claimed to participate in this program was obliged to provide Washington with detailed reports on its own financial and economic situation. Not weak, right? To get information of this level, and even in wartime, intelligence "offices" usually "plow" like damned. And here - on a silver platter ...
Not only the Soviet Union participated in the Lend-Lease. The quantitative and qualitative characteristics of the deliveries that were made allow us to conclude that our country was considered exclusively as a “poor relative”, who could be “fused” worse, and in the least. Of the 46.1 billion total supplies under this program, 9.1 billion, or less than 20%, fell to the USSR. Relief of over 30 billion went to Britain. France, shamefully surrendering to Hitler, was fortunate for almost one and a half billion, deliveries for 630 million went to China. Now about the price. Almost half of the value received by our country was forced to pay immediately. As you understand, only gold was accepted as payment - only until 1943 the USA received 40 tons from us. However, this was far from all. The “reverse land lease” was in full swing - the supply from the USSR of strategically important ores such as chromium, manganese and other materials indispensable in the same tank building industry. U.S. Navy ships carrying goods were repaired for free.
Ultimately - after all this, after returning, according to the terms of the previously signed agreements, a significant amount of received equipment and armaments, the Americans tried to tear off the Soviet Union, like sticky, "rolling" his account, according to various sources, either at 1.2, or at 1.3 billion dollars. Fortunately, at that time, Comrade Stalin sat in the Kremlin, with whom such “arithmetic” did not roll categorically. After the lion's roar of the Supreme, "building" American presidents like boys, they recognized the "mistake" overseas and reduced the bill by almost half - to 722 million dollars. Brezhnev began to pay them, but in Washington they decided to introduce the "Jackson-Vanik amendment" and Leonid Ilyich again sent the Yankees away. Gorbachev admitted that all the remaining amounts, and even the “wound” money on them, were recognized by Gorbachev, who would have paid the debts of Tsar Gorokh if they wanted to in the West. In reality, Russia finally paid off for the Lend-Lease year of commercials by 2006.
Road rifle to battle
Concerning the "decisive role" of military supplies from the USA to the Great Patriotic War ... Again, the numbers: 30 million "trunks" of small arms were released over the years by the military industry of the USSR, 150 thousand were obtained by Lend-Lease. Less than half a percent. Artillery and mortars - 650 thousand ours and 10 thousand "Lend-Lease". Tanks and self-propelled guns - 133 thousand armored vehicles left the conveyors of Soviet factories, 12 thousand were delivered. With aviation - the same story: 140 thousand collected themselves, 18 thousand received. At the same time, one cannot fail to mention that the quality of tanks and aircraft supplied to the Red Army was for the most part lower than any criticism. “Ushatannye” to the last stage, somewhat armed, simply outdated machines, came to us. It got to the point that Stalin was personally forced to “smash” the ambassadors of the United States and Britain after the outrageous case when 150 American “AeroCobras” originally intended for the USSR were impudently appropriated by the British (do you not have any dezhayu about today's stories with masks?), But to our country the ancient Hurricanes were sent, except for firewood. The representative of London in response, without blushing, said that "in the hands of British pilots these fighters will bring more benefits." Simplicity is worse than theft ...
One can only guess how the Supreme restrained himself so as not to knock down the gadish sir. Another extremely important detail: how exactly the supplies were distributed according to specific periods of the war. Instead of 600 tanks and 750 aircraft, which the Americans promised to send in 1941, when literally every fighting vehicle was on the count and the enemy was eager for Moscow, in reality they became “generous” by 182 and 204 units of one and the other, respectively. About the same situation was observed in 1942. By the tipping point of the war, when the historical battles for Stalingrad and the Caucasus flared up, supplies almost stopped altogether! As a reason, the "allies" called the dangers that awaited the convoys marching into the USSR. So this is war, gentlemen! In fact, many historians believe that in Washington and London they simply waited for “who will take”, not wanting to invest in the losing side.
Generally speaking, of the supplies of $ 741 million made by the United States under the Lend-Lease during the most difficult period of the Great Patriotic War for us, in its first year, $ 545 thousand of aid was sent to the USSR! During 1941-1942, our country received only 7% of the total volume of deliveries made by the United States under this program. They went more or less full-fledged "flow" in 1944-1945, when in Washington they firmly decided to use the Red Army to defeat Japan. For themselves, they tried - and, moreover, for good money. So, by virtue of the above figures, calling American deliveries not only “decisive”, but even “played a significant role” in the defeat of Nazi Germany and its more than numerous allies by our country, can only people who are not firmly friends with logic, neither with math, nor with conscience. Someone can reproach me for not listing all the items in a fairly large range of supplies. Well, there is no need to completely mention them, but I intentionally left something for the last. Very solid and quite high quality, unlike tanks or fighter jets, were American deliveries of vehicles for the Red Army. The number of trucks and cars produced in the USA that joined it exceeded 400 thousand, which amounted to 45% of the entire fleet of the Red Army (if you do not take into account trophy cars, which since the second half of the war have also been numerous). Another important component of the “Lend-Lease” can be considered 2 and a half million tons of aviation “fuel”, representing more than 35% of the fuel poured into the tanks of the glorious red-star “Stalinist Falcons”, smashing the enemy from heaven. Good numbers, impressive? Here you must remember them!
Nothing personal, just ...
Ready to compare? Then forward. Collaboration between the American transnational corporation Standard Oil of New Jersey (today beautifully existing under the guise of Exxon) and the German Interessen-Gemeinschaft Farbenindustrie AG, whose leaders subsequently appeared in the dock in Nuremberg (escaping, however, with completely symbolic punishments) began before Hitler came to power . However, after the flags with swastikas were hoisted over Germany, it not only did not end, but intensified sharply. 60 million dollars allocated to the Germans from across the ocean to develop methods for the production of synthetic fuel were spent on conscience. Who knows how much less the war would have lasted had not had the Third Reich of these technologies? The construction of relevant industrial enterprises in Nazi Germany was also financed by Standard Oil. In 1935 (Hitler has been in power for two years!) She handed over to the Germans a patent for the manufacture of tetraethyl lead, an anti-knock additive for gasoline, without which, according to the German side, "a long war would not have been possible." This was done with the knowledge and permission of the American government.
However, the Americans supplied the real Third Reich oil more than regularly. And throughout the war. Long ago, no one is surprised that none of the Standard Oil tankers was sunk by the Hitlerite aces submariners from Kriegsmarine, who were raging in the waters of the sea. Well, the Nazis were not idiots - let down what was intended for them! Supplies of "black gold" for the needs of the Wehrmacht and the Luftwaffe went to Italy, Austria, and "neutral" Spain. Figures, you ask? Well, for example, from the same Spain, right up to the landing in Normandy in the summer of 1944, the Reich received 48 thousand tons of oil per month! 13-odd thousand tons per month of the same raw materials went there from the Standard Oil fields in Venezuela. Take at least this data and multiply it by the number of months of the war — that’s what it will be possible to compare with aviation fuel delivered to the USSR not for free. By the way, only on direct deliveries made in wartime, Farbenindustrie Standard Oil earned at least $ 20 million. The then dollars ...
Another worthy comparison parameter is cars. The fact that Henry Ford was the idol of Adolf Hitler, the only American who was “honored” with a laudatory mention in the “Mein Kampf” and a full-length porter hanging in the Fuhrer’s office are well-known things. However, the point here was not only in the cave anti-Semitism of the automobile magnate and his open financial assistance to the NSDAP during its formation and development. Ford and General Motors owned almost the entire automobile industry of the Third Reich and a huge number of enterprises that regularly worked for the needs of the Wehrmacht throughout the war in the territories it occupied. Opel actually represented the European subsidiary of General Motors, without actually releasing anything but purely military products. The Blitz trucks that the Aryans drove so merrily to kill our great-grandfathers in 1941 were made there, and much more.
Ford factories no less regularly stamped trucks, armored vehicles, aircraft engines for Nazi non-humans in France, Algeria and other places. Every third tire on the wheels of the Wehrmacht cars was Ford. By some estimates - and every third truck, too. About the "unpleasant surprise" of American soldiers who "invaded Europe" in 1944 and faced an enemy there, "driving Ford and Opel trucks," built on "100% subsidiaries of automobile concerns from the USA," the Pravda newspaper did not write "And the Washington Post. What do you mind there? I confuse everything again - after all, was “Trading with the enemy act”, a law that threatened punishment for economic cooperation with the enemy? There was such ... And also - a decree of the US president, signed on December 13, 1941, according to which such transactions were allowed ... by special permission issued by the US Treasury. Promised numbers for comparison? Well, according to serious researchers, Ford and General Motors owned up to 90% of the three-ton armored semi-trucks produced during the wars and at least 70% of larger trucks used by the Wehrmacht and SS troops. It's enough?
And just do not try to prove that the headquarters and head offices in the United States had nothing to do with the activities of the Third Reich military industry! Their owners signed the opposite, demanding sky-high compensation from the US government for industrial facilities bombed by the Allies in Germany, which they recognized as theirs. And after all received, bastards! In 1967 alone, General Motors paid $ 33 million in damages to the Opel plant in Rüsselheim. And this is far from an isolated example - General Motors invested $ 35 million in the economy of the Third Reich by the beginning of World War II. Ford - 17 and a half. Standard Oil - more than 120 million. The total amount of US investment in the Nazi "anti-people economy" is estimated at no less than 800 million US dollars. Again - the then dollars.
One could recall much more - and the IBM company, whose excellent calculating machines helped the Nazis in the occupied territories very much to “figure out” even those Jews who had been hiding their origin for several generations. And Coca-Cola with its wonderful drink Fanta, designed and launched specifically for Nazi Germany. And Kodak, which regularly produced not only films for the Luftwaffe reconnaissance aircraft, but also detonators, fuses and other military components. However, all these will be only minor additions to the main picture described above. As a summary, the words of the former president of the Imperial Bank of the Third Reich Yalmar Schacht, said during an Nuremberg trial to an American lawyer: “Do you want to accuse someone of arming Hitler? Start by blaming your country! ” Schacht knew what he was talking about, and this is proved by the fact that he left the courtroom “innocent” ...
Should we, the grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the victors of that war, have to charge accordingly? In my opinion, it's time.
