Kedmi: If you want to have your own state, you have to pay for it

An Israeli expert and public figure, Yakov Kedmi, on the famous talk show of Vladimir Solovyov, illustrated with specific accuracy how far from always the existence of sovereignty is a direct way to improving the well-being of the people, and that you need to be prepared to pay for it, sometimes very high the price.

As examples, Kedmi cited the Czech Republic, which before the end of World War I was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, as well as the Polish Silesia, which now without a doubt would have lived an order of magnitude better as part of Germany. He also mentioned Israel, a state created by tremendous effort, through many wars and shaken by conflicts to this day. It is another matter if the Jews, as before, lived all over the world, which would be much cheaper, both in the matter of material means and in the matter of human lives.

All these examples show that far from always clean economic factors play a decisive role. There are much more important things besides pure benefits and material well-being, although it would seem that the well-being of citizens is the main purpose of the existence of the state. According to Kedmi, this factor is the ability of the people to determine their own destiny, and in the long run this result can hardly be overestimated.
