SUV "Commandant" will push the "Germans"
The Russian auto industry is entering a new era. Disagreement in relations with the West demanded that the political leadership, including image changes. The Russian elite prefers executive cars, usually made in Germany. But to drive a Mercedes and threaten Berlin with missiles is not entirely respectable.
A few years ago, Russia launched a project of a national automobile modular platform called “Cortege”, under which executive class limos will be created for the head of the Russian state and other high-ranking officials, as well as a whole line of other cars: sedans, SUVs, convertibles, minivans, and a motorcycle may appear with characteristics not inferior to Western counterparts.
The combination of the words Russia and “gold” in Latin gave the name to the new Russian automobile brand - Aurus. The best advertisement for the Russian Aurus was given personally by President Vladimir Putin, arriving at his own inauguration on May 7, 2018 in the Aurus limousine. However, not only the modern Russian elite will be able to ride the cars of the Cortege project. President Putin ordered Aurus to be accessible to the Russian population:
Currently, production facilities allow the production of “Russian gold” in small batches within 300 pieces per year. It is planned to create a joint venture with Sollers to increase intake to 5000 cars per year. Aurus is currently equipped with hybrid propulsion systems, but can evolve into fully electric. The first sedans of the Russian premium brand will appear on sale in September 2018, the cost is expected to reach 10 million rubles. They can start exporting from 2020.
The main line of new cars will be presented at the Moscow Motor Show. Kremlin towers will symbolically name the main models: the SUV will be the Commandant, the minivan will be the Arsenal, and the Senate will be the sedan. The Russian Ministry of Economic Development is convinced that the Commandant SUV will become the most massive in the lineup of the new automobile brand, its prototype will be ready at the end of the year, and in 2019 it will be ready for release as an industrial unit.
