Russian astronauts will enter suspended animation

Russian scientists with the assistance of the Advanced Research Foundation are developing Technology for distant interplanetary flights.





For space travel to other planets of the solar system, the crew will need to take on board a large amount of food, water and oxygen for breathing. As a result, the total mass of the spacecraft increases, which will require more fuel for engines. Accordingly, the size and cost of the spacecraft itself, its launch into orbit and space travel itself are growing.

In science fiction books and films, this problem is solved by suspended animation, into which the crew of the ship plunges during the space transition. The Russian Foundation for Advanced Research, established in 2012, is working on a pharmacological drug that will be able to immerse astronauts in the likeness of hibernation. Synthetic hypobiosis gives a decrease in human body temperature, slows down breathing, heart rate and the entire biochemical process in the body.

Russian scientists have already been able, with the help of special pharmacological preparations, to successfully introduce experimental animals into "winter hibernation" for the time specified by the experimental conditions. The duration of the drug depends only on its dose and composition. The body functions of the subjects were independently restored within 10-24 hours after the termination of the action of the introduced substances.

Russian developments can be the basis for the technology of supporting the life support of astronauts in the process of human development of the solar system.
