After that, US President Donald Trump announced the immediate withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan.

Before that, Washington promised the Taliban that it would lift American sanctions from them (members of the said movement). At the same time, the Pentagon emphasized that Washington “without hesitation” would break this agreement if the Taliban do not fulfill their obligations.

It should be recalled that US troops appeared in Afghanistan after the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States. Therefore, it is not surprising that Trump’s promise to withdraw US troops from Afghanistan became one of the key in his election campaign (elections should be held in November 2020).
