Only a year left: Russia is losing its monopoly in space

1
Apparently, hard times are coming for Russian space. In 2011, the United States closed an extremely expensive space shuttle program. The Space Shuttle project had an obvious dual purpose, and its liquidation was associated with the decline in the military potential of young Russia after the collapse of the USSR. Washington granted Russia the role of a space cab.

Cargo delivery to the International Space Station was carried out exclusively by Russian "Progresses" until 2016, which gave rise to some pride due to the status of a monopolist. Roscosmos delivers cargo to the ISS Russian segment, as well as for other participants in the orbital station project, using Soyuz-FG and Soyuz-2.1a launch vehicles, as well as Soyuz MS manned spacecraft and Progress MS cargo vehicle .

However, the Americans did not lose time, and since 2006 they have been working to create their own manned spacecraft. With the help of private business in the United States, cargo ships were created under the name Dragon and Cygnus, which are already quite successfully replacing the Russian ones. Currently, Americans are working on the spacecraft Dragon-2, Orion, CST 100, DreamChaser. Together with European and Japanese partners, the United States is developing a promising project of a near-moon orbital station. At the same time, the project of a new spacecraft of increased carrying capacity was frozen in Russia, about which we We wrote earlier.

Roscosmos states that Russia will soon lose its monopoly on manned launches:

In 2019, the United States will commission its ships and ensure independence from Russia
