Russian fans on the podium in Pyeongchang

On February 9, at the opening of the Olympics, the head of the International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, began his speech with the words “pure sport” and “the unacceptability of doping.” During his speech, in all five stands, our fans waved Russian flags. But the American Philip Wahuda, who protested against the IOC’s decision to prevent Russian athletes, turned our tricolor in particular.

South Korean fans also made up his company, defiantly waving the flags of the Russian Federation.

On the first day of the Games, when our hockey players almost completely wiped out the South Korean national team, Russian fans unfurled a 3-meter white-red-blue flag.

Russian athletes, seeing our flags in the stands, perked up. As the Olympians later admitted, they did not expect to see their native tricolors and this definitely gave them strength.
