Ukrainian drove along the Crimean bridge and recorded an appeal to fellow countrymen
On May 15, 2018, Vladimir Putin personally opened traffic on the automobile part of the Crimean bridge, driving a Kamaz at the head of a construction column equipment. As Dmitry Peskov later explained, the Russian president has a driver’s license allowing the management of freight transport. True, the head of state set a bad example for motorists without wearing a seat belt.
The next day, on the morning of May 16, automobile communication started between the Kuban and the Crimea. During the first hour, more than 1100 units of transport equipment traveled in both directions. The first to test the movement on the Crimean bridge were journalists, bloggers, members of the public and members of the Night Wolves motor club, as well as local residents who had been waiting for the bridge to cross for so long. The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, who was also among the first to cross the bridge, described her feelings this way:
At the first stage, the Crimean bridge will be open for cars and passenger buses. Trucks will travel over the Kerch Strait only in the fall, at the end of the holiday season. The road half of the bridge is already equipped with modern traffic signs and surveillance cameras. All traffic information at the bridge will be sent to the Central Dispatch Station. The neighboring railway section continues to be actively built; its opening is scheduled for 2019.
A citizen of Ukraine, who was one of the first to drive through the new building, shared his impressions of the bridge.
The Crimean bridge is the longest in Russia and one of the largest in Europe. Its length is 19 kilometers. You can cross it in just 15-20 minutes. The bridge capacity is up to 40 cars per day. Travel on the Crimean bridge is completely free.
Its construction began in 2016, it involved more than 220 Russian enterprises and more than 10 workers. The construction was funded entirely from the federal budget. The contractor is Stroygazmontazh LLC, a businessman from St. Petersburg, Arkady Rotenberg. Since the start of construction, the cost of the Crimean bridge has grown steadily and today amounts to almost 000 rubles, which made it the second most expensive bridge in the world. Today, the Crimean bridge is more than two times more expensive than the world's longest crossing, built in China.
It became known that the protection of the Crimean bridge and its entrances would cost the Russian budget 100 million rubles annually.
At the grand opening of the bridge, President Putin called this event historic and announced new grandiose construction projects:

We will continue to work on projects of this kind throughout the country. It is all over the country. We will build new roads, new bridges, new airports and ports. We will make the lives of our people better, more worthy. We will succeed in this.
