Russia should forget about good relations with the West

Day after day when it comes to external policy, the question arises of improving or worsening relations with the West. According to Russian political scientist Sergei Mikheev, this issue does not deserve a place on the foreign policy agenda.

Undoubtedly, attempts to establish relations should be undertaken, but undertaking to predict the results of these attempts, and even more so to calculate based on the forecast of our relations, is a huge mistake, according to Mikheev. Our habit, which has already become extremely harmful, of trying to please the West, proving to them that it is right, and so on, is high time to get rid of it, and if some of our fellow citizens have this habit stimulated by specific monetary preferences, then such behavior of people not involved causes bewilderment.

Much more important is the calculation based on the current situation, and the expert has an opinion on this. Firstly, Mikheev pointed out a possible attempt by the West to put up a tender with Iran and Syria, where the West will be ready to reconcile with the presence of Russia in the SAR, provided Iran is not allowed there. In addition to potential deals, or in the absence of an agreement on this issue, the civil war in Syria can continue for many more years by proxy, fueled by forces and means from the outside.
