What do the Irish think about Russia and Russians

2
An unusual survey was conducted in Dublin, the capital of Ireland. He was dedicated to our country. The city residents were asked what associations they came to mind when mentioning Russia.

Of course, Ireland and Russia are far from each other, so some answered that they had no associations with our country, and they never thought about it. But most of the respondents gave interesting, sometimes unexpected answers, allowing us to look at ourselves from the outside, and also to better understand the Irish.

They interviewed people of different ages and professions, which made it possible to evaluate the answers of Irish people from different social and cultural backgrounds.

How the Irish see us

Many of the respondents believe that today Russia has a great influence on the lives of people around the world, including the Irish. True, some believe that we influence the world positively, while others - that negatively.

Of course, there were strange associations. For example, that in Russia it is very cold. I do not think that the climate of the simple Russian city of Sochi is more severe than the climate of Dublin. Someone recalls Russian hats, for example, Russian caps with earflaps and Cossack hats. Others remembered Russian vodka. 33-year-old teacher Sam for some reason believes that it is made from potatoes. The third seems to be a strange Russian habit of drinking tea with lemon. Someone called the Russian doll a symbol of Russia.

But the presence of cliches, stereotypes and strange associations did not surprise. More surprisingly, the Irish, it turns out, are well versed in Russian culture. They remembered Russian classical literature and music. Many of them read Chekhov, Dostoevsky, Tolstoy.

Finn, a 22-year-old travel agent who sells tours in Ireland, fairly well sang the Russian folk song, Kalinka-Malinka, while dancing. He believes that there are very beautiful girls in Russia.

40-year-old Brian immediately said that he was pleased to read Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace and watched Andrei Tarkovsky's Solaris.

Another young man named Tom said that he loves to listen to Tchaikovsky and watch Russian ballet, watches the performances of Russian athletes, dreams of visiting St. Petersburg and Kaliningrad. On its electronic media there are books by Chekhov and Tolstoy. Let me remind you, Tom does not live in Moscow or Novosibirsk, but in Dublin.

Taxi driver Brandon and his wife Sheila drew attention to our students, who stayed in their house. They seemed smart, extremely inquisitive and loving to travel. Children from Russia are pleased to get acquainted with the culture and customs of Ireland. Brandon and Sheila are astonished at the size of our country.

A man named Corey said that he lived and worked in Russia and loves our country very much. He is interested in our history and music. An icon with the coat of arms of Russia is attached to the lapel of his jacket. He believes that this emblem reflects the essence of our country. One head of the eagle looks to the West, the second to the East.

The survey showed us that between ordinary people from different countries there is much more in common than it might seem at first glance.

Well, yes, we are multifaceted. We have Chekhov and Dostoevsky, and vodka with caviar, albeit squash.
