The Russian "Shell-C1" in Syria rigidly thwarted the plans of militants

As it became known, the Khmeimim air base in Syria, where the Russian air forces are located, was attacked by unknown forces. Air defense systems managed to repel the attack. Several aircraft were intercepted.

With the onset of the dark of the day on April 24, means of monitoring the airspace of the Russian Khmeimim air base at a distance from the airfield revealed small-sized air targets of unknown identity. By the standard anti-aircraft fire weapons of the Russian air base, all air targets were destroyed

- quotes RIA News the words of the source located at this aerodrome.

It is reported that anti-aircraft missile-gun complex "Shell-C1" fired at enemy targets. Currently, the facility is operating as planned. Fortunately, there were no casualties. There is no material damage.

This is not the first attack on the base where the Russian military are taking part in the Syrian campaign. The current year began with a sad event - right on New Year's Eve, the Khmeimim air base (located in the Syrian province of Latakia) was shelled. The Department of Defense then stated that the attackers used mortars. Some media outlets, however, reported that the attack was carried out using drones and resulted in casualties and damage to several aircraft. The Ministry of Defense categorically denied the deaths of servicemen.

On the night of January 5-6, another incident occurred: 13 drones attacked the Khmeimim. Seven of them were shot down with the help of “Shell” complexes, the others were neutralized by electronic warfare specialists.

The Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation even then declared that technique, which the militants of the anti-Syrian "opposition" used in the attack on Khmeimim, could come only from those states that have "high technological capabilities" for this. In addition, representatives of the Defense Ministry indicated that terrorists can use unmanned aerial vehicles in any other country.

In early April, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu said that the Russians destroyed 2018 drones in Syria in 17.

It turns out that in their struggle against the "Syrian regime" (as they say in the West) and against the allies of Damascus, some developed countries transfer high-tech equipment to armed gangs. And this creates a threat to everyone. Moreover, not only drones, but MANPADS, and many other things that can be used practically anywhere in the world are transferred to terrorists.

It was previously reported that on April 24, the American strategic reconnaissance aircraft RC-135U flew over the Mediterranean Sea for almost four hours. He moved along the coast of Syria and Lebanon. In particular, he was approaching the logistics point of the Russian Navy located in Tartus and could conduct reconnaissance over the Khmeimim air base, located off the coast of the Mediterranean Sea.
