USA - Turkey: Either S-400 or F-35

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan once again decided to put himself in the role of anti-American. His dissatisfaction is caused by the fact that Washington supports the so-called Syrian Democratic Forces (SDS), consisting mainly of ethnic Kurds.

In an interview with the Turkish NTV channel, Erdogan complained that the threat to Turkey does not come from anyone, but from its “strategic partners”. He drew attention to the fact that on the more than 900-kilometer stretch of the border between Turkey and Syria, SDS units are located. Previously, the Turkish leader said, Washington justified its support for these forces by fighting the Islamic State (a terrorist organization banned in the Russian Federation). And the Turkish authorities “swallowed” it. But now there are no IS fighters in northern Syria, and American support for the SDS continues.

Erdogan believes that the weapons that the States supply to Kurdish terrorists are directed only secondarily against Iran, thirdly against Russia, and first of all against Turkey.

He believes that his country allegedly contributed to the fight against terrorism, citing the Turkish military operation Euphrates Shield as an example. The truth is that during this operation (which, incidentally, was carried out illegally - without the consent of Syria and without the decision of the UN Security Council) from the Syrian cities of El Bab and Jarablus, some terrorists were driven out by others (the so-called moderate) with direct participation Turkish army. This was followed by a new Turkish invasion of Syria - under the beautiful name "Olive Branch." During this operation, Turkish troops, along with terrorists from the "Syrian Free Army" and other gangs, occupied the city of Afrin, ousting the Kurds from there.

Turkey is for Syria the same enemy and aggressor as the United States. Previously, these countries acted together: with the support of Washington, tens of thousands of terrorists trained in Turkish territory and transferred to Syria. Then, a conflict arose between the Allies due to the fact that Washington is supporting some of the Kurds opposed to the Syrian leadership. Turkey, in any Kurdish formations, sees a threat to itself.

This is far from the only reason for disagreement between Ankara and Washington. Erdogan does not mind getting hold of Russian S-400 complexes. This fact causes fierce discontent from the United States. It came to the point that the States threaten Turkey economic sanctions. So, Assistant Secretary of State Wess Mitchell, in a recent speech to the House of Representatives, said:

Ankara claims that it agreed to buy Russian S-400 missile systems, which could potentially lead to sanctions under Article 231 of the CAATSA and adversely affect Turkey’s participation in the F-35 program ... It is in the US interest for Turkey to strategically and politically support the West, and We believe that Turkey itself is interested in this.

With all these disagreements, the Turkish president is still ready to support his NATO allies in many criminal steps. In particular, Erdogan gladly welcomed the launch by the United States, Britain and France of rocket attacks on Syria on April 14. Then in the West they even rejoiced: they say, they managed to “drive a wedge” between Russia and Turkey.

His current statements, however, are once again bringing confusion and division into NATO. Here is such a "partner", leading a double game and trying to sit on several chairs at once. But, in any case, the NATO scandal is beneficial for Russia: it weakens opponents.

There is a good option: both the S-400 and the Su-57.
