State Corporation Roscosmos, in the person of its holding Russian Space Systems, announced its intention to launch a unique astrophysical laboratory in space next March.

A laboratory called "Spectrum-RG" is a whole complex designed to study space objects in the x-ray range. The primary task of the complex will be the search for clusters of galaxies, as well as the study of the remains of massive stars - black holes, neutron stars, and the processes occurring in the centers of galaxies.

The device will be equipped with two x-ray telescopes with oblique incidence optics - ART-XC (Russia) and eRosita (Germany). According to scientists, within the framework of the Spectrum-RG mission, it will be possible to discover more than a million new galaxies.

According to the RCC, the space observatory will receive the most modern airborne radio complex, which will provide high accuracy in the management and transmission of data. It will allow scientists to maintain a stable connection with the complex and receive scientific information at a distance of up to 1,8 million kilometers from the Earth at a speed of 512 KB / s. At the same time, the error in determining the coordinates of the device will not exceed 10 meters, and speeds up to 0,5 millimeters per second.

An important feature of the device is an automated repair system directly during the flight. If for some reason there is no connection with the Earth, the device will start the self-diagnosis and troubleshooting procedure. The program will take turns connecting redundant devices until it finally replaces the failed device.

It is worth noting that initially the complex was planned to be launched by the end of 2017, then the launch was scheduled for the spring of the 18th year, and now the flight of the Spectrum-RG was postponed until next spring.
