Boeing again has no luck: the first flight of the largest twin-engine liner is thwarted

1
The first flight of the world's largest twin-engine passenger airliner Boeing 777X was postponed to the beginning of 2020. The reason for the delay, according to information from the online publication Flightglobal, was the need to refine the GE9X engine.

For the first time, shortcomings in the design of the world's largest jet engine were discussed after testing in February 2018. As tests have shown, the levers that drive the rotor blades of the compressor stator experience excessive load during operation of the unit.

Despite the fact that, according to the engineers, this miscalculation can be quickly eliminated, it entailed some difficulties. In June of this year, representatives of the GE Aviation development company announced the likelihood of a certification test being postponed to fall. And so, on the eve, already in Boeing it was announced that the new airliner would make its first flight no earlier than the beginning of 2020. At the same time, the aircraft manufacturer hopes that this “hitch” will not affect the delivery time of the passenger aircraft, which should begin at the end of next year.

Recall that the Boeing 777X will be the first folding liner in the world. The development of the apparatus has been ongoing since 2010. The family will consist of three models of different dimensions: B777-8X, B777-9X and B777-9XL. The aircraft will be able to cover a distance of up to 16,1 thousand km and accommodate from 349 to 414 passengers.
