Production of engines RD-276 stopped in Russia
On the eve it became known that NPO Energomash completely stopped the production of power plants RD-276 for the heavy type of Proton-M launch vehicle. About this agency RIA News said the director general of the enterprise Igor Arbuzov.
According to the functionary, the engines created by the NGO are enough to ensure the remaining launches of the device. At the moment, Energomash is engaged in the production of the second, third and fourth RD-171MV units for the Soyuz-5 rocket. However, if an urgent need arises, the scientific production association is ready to issue an additional batch of engines for Proton-M.
Recall that the RD-171MV unit is the most powerful closed-circuit liquid rocket engine. His fire tests are scheduled for the end of this year. The power plant is designed for the Soyuz-5 medium-class launch vehicle (Irtysh), the first launch of which can take place in 2022.
As for stopping the production of engines for the Proton-M carrier, it is associated with the cessation of rocket operation at the Baikonur Cosmodrome by 2025. This decision was made in connection with the dissatisfaction of Nur-Sultan with the fact that this unit uses toxic heptyl.
The successor to the aforementioned missile should be the carrier of the Angara-A5 heavy class. The launch of the latter will be carried out from the cosmodrome in Plesetsk, and in the future - from Vostochny.
