Ilon Musk has created an interface that turns a person into a cyborg

1
Cyborgs are a kind of symbiosis of living tissues and high-tech equipment in the human body, previously they were only a figment of the fantasies of Hollywood directors and enthusiastic scientists. However, thanks to the efforts of engineers from the Neuralink startup, created by Elon Musk three years ago, implanting electronic chips into the brain can become a reality.

On the eve of the researchers presented two neural interfaces, received the uncomplicated names - "System A" and "System B". The latter includes bundled electrodes of polymer materials and microchips designed to read a neural pulse and relay it to a computer-understandable language.

It is worth noting that the above microcircuits have a tiny size, and the thickness of each electrode does not exceed the thickness of a human hair. The installation of implants directly into the brain is carried out by a robot created by scientists, which was jokingly called the “Ilona Mask Sewing Machine”. The device is able to autonomously implant about 200 electrodes per minute, accommodating them on an area of 4x7 mm and without damaging the blood vessels.

Laboratory experiments performed on rats showed that the interface created by engineers from Neuralink is able to efficiently read the signal even if neurons generate pulses very quickly.

According to the developers, their brainchild will be able to make an invaluable contribution to medicine, contributing to the normal transmission of signals between neurons in people with multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's disease, epileptics, etc. Volunteer tests should begin within a year.

At the same time, Musk did not miss the chance to “look” into the distant future, where he will be able to realize one of his “grandiose” ideas. Namely, to make a person a cyborg who can control a computer with the power of thought and resist the dominance of artificial intelligence.
